The Math & Sciences Center is the first building at an independent school in New York State to receive LEED Gold Certification. The new building provides four science labs, independent research room, math classrooms, an IT suite, faculty office suite, and a free-standing greenhouse. Used as a teaching tool, the building overtly acknowledges sustainable practices with visible systems supported by didactic signage. A “green screen” display measures the building’s energy and water consumption in real time, giving students insight into its overall performance. Aesthetically, the building reinforces the existing traditional campus architecture while embracing contemporary design principles.
