The new Campus Common is a combination of landscaped and hardscape surfaces which replace the formerly congested, asphalt parking lot in the heart of the campus. Pathways bisect the green to connect the building entrances and picnic tables at one end of the hardscape plaza allow for gathering spaces. The wrap-around porch of the Germantown Monthly meeting now has a landscaped buffer separating pedestrian paths from the entry drive. Deciduous trees provide shade in the summer and warmth in the winter months while specimen trees provide visual interest. Plants were selected to ensure that trees, shrubs, and groundcover were in bloom both in spring when school was ending and in the fall as school begins.
