William Penn Charter School

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

A 10,000 sf green roof covers the new 650-seat performance space, capturing storm water, reducing the heat island effect, and provides thermal and sound insulation while protecting the roof membrane. LEED Gold certified, the building also houses a band room for 85 and a chorus room for 110 supported by back of house facilities, music lab, practice rooms, faculty offices and music library. Daylighting and views are in all spaces but the theater, and embodied energy of the building was further reduced by utilizing local materials for almost 25% of the building.
